Whyte Horse Winery in the Winner's Circle

The competition race for the best in wine selections is underway and local winery Whyte Horse Winery earned a place in the Winner’s Circle at one of the season’s first competitions.  “It’s the wine competition season and the winery is doing very well,” said Larry and Connie Pampel, Whyte Horse Winery owners.  “This is an exciting time for America’s wineries to vie for awards and put their wines in the limelight.

At the Finger Lakes International Win Competition (FLIWC), Whyte Horse Winery won their first ever gold medal with Black Beauty wine, a popular dessert wine. In addition to the gold medal, Whyte Horse Winery won a silver medal for Traminette, one of the winery’s white wines featuring Indiana grapes.  Chambourcin, a dry red wine, and Chautauqua Red, a sweet red wine, earned bronze medal honors at the competition.

“There were a record number of entries in the 10th annual FLIWC,” said Larry Pampel.  “The competition draws more than 3,000 entries.  It is the first competition in the world to feature wines from all 50 states, nine Canadian provinces and 13 other countries.  National and international judges included distributors, educators, enologists, sommeliers, restaurateurs, winemakers and writers.”

At the Tasters Guild International Wine Judging Contest, Chautauqua Red earned a gold medal.  Traminette earned a silver medal.  Black Beauty, Chambourcin and Zinfadel, a heavy body red wine, earned bronze medals.

2010 marked the 23rd Annual International Wine Judging contest.  Experienced judges from around the country completed over 2,200 evaluations of wine from ten countries and 32 states.  “By sponsoring this wine judging event, it is the objective of the Tasters Guild to give the consumer a reference point in choosing quality wine values,” said Joe Borrello, Tasters Guild President, in an interview.

“We are very honored and happy with these awards,” stated Larry Pampel.  “The medals earned in these prestigious competitions brings new consumers to Whyte Horse Winery.  As we gain recognition, the community benefits as well.  We sincerely appreciate local support of our winery.”

“Our winemaking philosophy is one of patience and taking care to ensure that the fruit that God created is what is most evident in the wine,” explained Connie Pampel.  “We invite you to come and taste the award winning wines at Whyte Horse Winery.”
